As you may know by now, a few months ago I began posting a cocktail recipe and video every Friday evening on my Instagram page. I’m somewhat new to making cocktails. It’s been a good excuse for me to expand my bartending skills, and share a cocktail or two with my husband on Friday evenings. I’ve listed a few tools I’ve acquired over the last few months that I feel every bar needs. For the recipes visit my Instagram feed every Friday!
The spiced orange and cranberry margarita recipe (courtesy of The First Mess) pictured above is below:
SPICED CRANBERRY SYRUP:
1 cup cranberry cocktail (NOT pure cranberry juice)
1 cup cane sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and minced
½ cup frozen or fresh cranberries
SPICED CRANBERRY ORANGE MARGARITAS:
3 oz silver tequila
2 oz Cointreau or triple sec
3 oz cranberry cocktail
1 ½ oz lemon juice
1 oz orange juice
1 oz Spiced Cranberry Syrup
ice
GARNISH:
Cinnamon sticks, frozen cranberries, and or orange peel
First, make the syrup. In a small saucepan, combine the cranberry cocktail, cane sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and cranberries. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a strong simmer, stirring often. Once the cane sugar has dissolved and the cranberries have burst remove the syrup from the heat. Run the syrup through a fine mesh strainer and press on the cranberries to extract their juice. Let the syrup cool before bottling and storing in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Next make the spiced cranberry orange margaritas. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the tequila, triple sec, cranberry cocktail, lemon juice, orange juice, and cranberry syrup. Shake until the outside of the shaker has condensation and feels very cold. Pour over ice in a glass rimmed with chili lime seasoning (I used @tajinusa) and add garnishes.
